Jim Thorpe considers skateboard limits

From the Times-News:

Jim Thorpe Mayor Michael Sofranko presented the borough council with a model ordinance for skateboarding in the town during its normal monthly meeting on Thursday evening. The council had requested that the mayor look into such an ordinance at a previous meeting.

The material Sofranko presented to council was prepared by the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs and consists of a sample ordinance and some other information about regulating skateboarding activity within an urban area.

Local businesses unhappy with meters

Jim Thorpe Mayor Michael Sofranko reported to the borough council on his meeting with the Jim Thorpe Chamber of Commerce at their normal monthly meeting on Thursday evening, May 13, 2010. The major mayor met with the chamber to discuss the parking meters in the borough. Earlier this year, the borough reprogrammed the meters, doubling the cost to park in town and making the minimum investment 50 cents to get 30 minutes of parking time. One hour costs a dollar and two hours costs two dollars, which is the maximum amount of time available on the meters.

Sofranko, Serfass winners in local election

Michael J. Sofranko (R) is the next mayor of Jim Thorpe after collecting slightly more than 60% of the votes cast in yesterday’s local elections according to Carbon County Bureau of Elections.

Steven R. Serfass is the next judge of common pleas beating Carole Wildoner with close to 60% of the votes.
